Maggie Mullin O'Hara -- 'Gestures of Persistence'

We are currently exhibiting the work, 'Gestures of Persistence,' by Maggie Mullin O'Hara, in our FAB Gallery here at SC State!

Maggie Mullin O'Hara is a multimedia artist from Pittsburgh, PA, currently based in the South; specifically, Columbia, SC and Savannah, GA. Her work exists as a hybrid form, borrowing from the traditions of the mediums of video, photography, performance and installation. It explores ideas of interconnectedness between the physical body and experiences of psychological balance and imbalance while proposing the possibility of fulfillment through the indeterminate. It challenges the trans-subjective nature of our roles in the experience of the work, as well as the potentiality for indetermination as change -- as having the capability to reverse pain into pleasure, or more radically, to collapse distinctions between the two. The work proposes the ultimatum of indeterminacy leading towards an artistic, affective production, and away from any possibility of being limited, distinct or settled.
Maggie received her Master's of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015 and her Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Photography from Point Park University in 2013. She currently serves as adjunct Professor of Digital Video and curator/manager of the FAB gallery within the Fine Arts Department at South Carolina State University.

There is a closing reception scheduled for Monday, March 6th at 5pm. We hope to see you there!

Deepanjan Mukhopadhyay - 'Pre/Post/Eros'

We are currently exhibiting the work of artist Deepanjan Mukhopadhyay at our FAB gallery here at SC State and we couldn't be more excited about it!

Mukhopadhyay writes about this body of work, "Pre/Post/Eros is a body of work exploring the shifting meanings within the conditions of post-colonialism and neo-colonialism. As a non-resident alien in the United States, and originally from formerly colonized India, my hybrid identity oscillates within the cultures I explore. My materials include physical and image sources such as readymades, scans, computer generated product images, declassified army documents, educational documentary films, and stock photography -- all fluid signifiers of history and culture. There is a resonance within the structures of aesthetics, epistemology, and politics situated within the post-colonial cultural production. As text becomes a compilation of quotations, art becomes appropriated, assembled, and collaged. Reproduction technology such as photography and video successfully problematizes the notions of representation, as introspection of subjectivity, and reflections on the medium become aligned."

Deepanjan Mukhopadhyay is originally from Kolkata, India, and is pursuing his MFA in photography from the University of Georgia. He graduated with a BFA in photography and a secondary concentration in painting from Louisiana Tech University in 2015. Deepanjan's images have been published in Aperture, Burnaway, The Huffington Post, and PDN Magazine. He has also received honors for his work from the Society of Photographic Education, 2015 PDN Photo Annual, and Society of Professional Journalists. His work has been exhibited in India, Canada, and the United States.

There is a closing reception and artist talk scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd at 2 pm. We hope to see you there!
